BARRIE, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team didn't get the result they wanted to start the season as the Georgian Grizzlies defeated the Lords 93-59 on Wednesday night.
Georgian opened up an early 25-11 lead after one quarter, which they built on to lead the Lords 47-25 at halftime.
Durham had a better second half, scoring nine more points than the first, but with the Grizzlies offence being held to only one less point in the second half the Lords were unable to mount a comeback.
Darian Rowe (Maple, Ont.) led the Lords with 15 points and seven rebounds, while
Aaron Hayles (Pickering, Ont.) added 13 points and three boards.
Georgian's Teq Zwarych had a double-double to lead the Grizzlies with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Braeden Wilkinson picked up 16 points in the win.
The Lords next game is Saturday in Toronto against the George Brown Huskies, who opened their OCAA season with a 72-59 victory over the Loyalist Lancers on Tuesday night. Tip-off against the Huskies is 3 p.m.
Durham's home opener is Tuesday, Oct. 27 against the Seneca Sting. Tip-off at the CRWC is 8 p.m.
