Winning streak ends after second half collapse against Huskies

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – A four-game winning streak came to an end for the Durham Lords men's basketball team after falling to the George Brown Huskies 85-78 on Tuesday night - despite leading by double digits at halftime.

This game was significant for the OCAA east region standings as both teams had only suffered one loss this season.

The first quarter started in favour of the hosts as Durham took an early lead with a trio of threes, with two coming from Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) and Dondre Huggins (Scarborough, Ont.). This was only the start of good fortunes for the Lords as they led 24-13 after the first quarter.

Halliburton was on fire from the start, not missing a single shot in the first quarter and already recording 10 points through 10 minutes.

Durham matched their first quarter total of 24 in the second, but the Huskies picked things up offensively scoring 20 of their own as the Lords led 48-33 at halftime. Halliburton and Trea Lawson (Whitby, Ont.) were the leaders in points by the break, combining for 28.

As opposed to the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, this time it was the Lords fighting to hold a lead as the Huskies picked up steam in the second half. This became increasingly obvious after the Huskies doubled the Lords in points in the third quarter, 32-16. After a massive shift in momentum, the visitors had a one-point lead going into the final quarter.

George Brown completed the comeback and held on to hand Durham only their second loss of the season and their first loss on home court, 85-78.

Halliburton finished the game as the Lords leader in points and lone player to pass the 20 points plateau with 22, four assists, a rebound and a steal. Meanwhile, Dejazmatch James and Adam Costanzo were the leaders for the Huskies with 21 and 20 points, respectively.

The Lords are back in action on Friday as the St. Lawrence Vikings come to town. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the CRWC.
