NORTH YORK, Ont. - The Durham College men's soccer team earned their first tie in OCAA conference action this season as they tied Seneca 1-1 on the road Wednesday night.
In the highly competitive OCAA east region, Durham (4-2-1) is one point ahead of Centennial (4-2-0) for second place in the standings but the Colts have a game in hand. Durham trails Algonquin (5-2-0) by two points while the Sting inch closer with a 3-2-1 record.
The Lords will have an important match this Friday night on the road when they take on Centennial in Scarborough, Ont.
Wednesday's match against the Sting was a nail-biter with both teams having chances to win the game down the stretch.
Durham scored their lone goal in the 20th minute, after
Cody Kraemer (Whitby, Ont.) scored on a penalty kick as Austin MacDonell (Pickering, Ont.) was taken down in the box on the previous play. MacDonell was creating problems for the Sting the entire night but was unable to convert to increase the Lords' lead to two.
Midway through the second half, the Sting finally broke through as Tajmir Ashraq found the ball during a scramble in front of the Lords' goal and drove a shot into the corner. The equalizer in the 70th minute would complete the scoring.
Campbell finished with five saves on 11 shots attempted by the Lords.
Dylan Yeo (Newmarket, Ont.) backstopped the Lords with four saves on 16 shot attempts by the Sting.
Durham had beat Seneca 2-0 in their previous outing in Oshawa.
Prior to the game, Lords' captain
Bruce Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) was taken out of the line up due to an injury.
