OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team were so close, yet so far from earning their first conference victory of the season on Sunday afternoon.
Being swept by the La Cité Coyotes may not have been the result they expected, but the final score looked worse for the Lords than it actually was.
Durham fell 27-25 in the opening set before a 25-23 second set heartbreaker. From there, the Coyotes breezed to the three-set victory by taking the third 25-15.
The Lords are off to a rare 0-3 start, which they hope to right against the visiting Loyalist Lancers, who are also 0-3, on Thursday, Nov. 1. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m.
•
Aaron Banga (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) tied for the Lords team-high seven points. Banga led Durham with six kills, while Krabi tied for a team-high three blocks.
•
Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) continued to have blocking success at the net, finishing the match with three.
• Nicolas Pirnat and Michel Leblanc were the biggest problems for the Lords as they had 15 and 14 kills respectively for the Coyotes. Pirnat had four stuffed blocks and two aces, while Leblanc had four service aces.
• Pichl, Krabi and Banga all finished with seven digs.
