Lords get back in the win column

Box Score NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak after picking up an 82-66 victory over the Canadore Panthers in North Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Durham's victory comes less than 24 hours after a double-digit loss to the first place George Brown Huskies in Toronto.

With the win, Durham (8-5) moves two points back of the Centennial Colts (9-5) with a game in hand for third place in the OCAA east region standings.

Rebounds were a key to victory as Durham had 58 boards compared to 49 by the Panthers. Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) led all players with 11 rebounds while Romareo Stephenson (Markham, Ont.) had nine.

Canadore looked like they were counting on the three-point shot to stay in the game but it ended up shooting them in the foot as they were a dismal 2-for-20 from beyond the arc.

Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) led Durham in scoring with 23 points, shooting 9-for-17 from the floor. He was also 2-for-4 in three-point attempts.

Daniel Smalling was the leading scorer for Canadore with 21 points.

After a slow start with Durham trailing 6-0, the Lords dominated the pace of play the rest of the way opening up their biggest lead of 52-33 in the third quarter.

The Lords swept the season series with the Panthers that included beating them 83-59 in the season opener in Oshawa.
