Lords extend win streak to five with victory over Grizzlies

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – OCAA men's basketball athlete of the week Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) continued his successful stretch of games, finishing with 27 points in Durham College's 80-66 over the Georgian Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

Halliburton's scoring game on 9-for-19 from the field, but he was 4-for-8 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the line. He also grabbed nine boards – narrowly missing a double-double.

Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.), who struggled for the Lords on the road on Friday in their win over St. Lawrence got back on track with his seventh double-double of the season. He dropped 18 points and pulled in 15 rebounds.

A strong 7-0 run to start for the Lords put them in a good position after the quarter up 18-11 and they maintained their slight advantage up 40-29 at halftime. Led by Halliburton's 11 points in the third quarter, Durham College increased their lead by eight heading into the final 10 minutes, but that is where the Grizzlies started to chip away.

Their best quarter saw them score the first four points and put together 4-0 and 7-0 runs, which were interrupted solely by a technical foul shot made the Lords. Even with their team effort in the final minutes the Lords were able to outlast the Grizzlies and hold onto their lead for their 12th win of the season.

Georgian's scoring was led by Connor Laronde, who finished with 22. He was the lone Grizzlies' player to break double-digits.

With three games to play, Durham sits in a tie for third in the OCAA east region. The Lords host the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday, Feb. 17 and the La Cité Coyotes on Sunday, Feb. 18 before travelling to Scarborough to face the Centennial Colts on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Their game against the Colts – pending results of games before February 20 – may determine third/fourth place as the two teams are currently tied. As of Tuesday night, Algonquin and La Cité are out of the playoffs.
