LANCERS GO 1-1 ON THE WEEKEND

The Lancers came out of a double header weekend with a 1-1 record after taking on the Seneca Sting Friday night and the Centennial Colts on Saturday.

The Lancers got off to a sluggish start against the Sting and fell behind 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. With limited improvement in the second, the Lancers continued to struggle offensively where the visiting 5-2 Sting made some great shots and widened their lead to 28-15 at the half.

Looking like a completely different team in the second half of the game, the Lancers had an explosive third quarter that brought the game to within 1 point (39-38) with less than a minute to go in the quarter. Moments later, tough plays from Haley Van Rossum put the Lancers back in scoring position and Brittany Mason capitalized to tie the game at 43.

Improved passing from the Lancers created better scoring opportunities in a physical the 4^th quarter, but it wasn't enough to get by the Sting who finished the game on the winning side of a 62- 48 decision.

Second year Lancer Brittany Mason scored her third double double of the season with 10 rebounds and 11 total points, Taylor Blair added 11 points of her own with 9 rebounds while Haley Van Rossum's unsurmountable tenacity, toughness and gritt set the tone for the Lancers.

Back on the court for the second part of the weekend's double header, the Lancers looked to redeem themselves with a win over the Centennial Colts.

In a much different game from the day before, the Lancers came charging out of the gates and never looked back. Second year Lancer Brianna Arichara's speed was unmatched by the Colts which allowed her to create great scoring opportunities for her team, leading to a big 22-8 lead after the first quarter.

The Colts made a comeback in the second and outscored the Lancers 17-16, but it wasn't enough to take the lead. Holding the Colts to a minimum 10 point split, the Lancers maintained their dominating performance with aggressive drives to the basket and good rebounding. Van Rossum continued to excel on the court with smart defense, tough plays and an impressive level of physicality throughout the entire game. Blair turned in her best performance of the season with 24 points, 15 rebounds, 4 steals & 3 blocks to help push the Lancers to a 62-48 victory.

With the weekend's results, the Lancers now sit in 5^th place in the east division with a 3-4 record with only 2 games left in the semester.
