Lords fall from second to fourth

SCARBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Centennial Colts Friday night in Scarborough.

It was a tough loss for the Lords as they fall from second to fourth place in the OCAA east region standings. With fifth place Fleming hosting the provincial championship, Durham will need to leapfrog either Seneca, Centennial or Algonquin in the standings in order to qualify for the postseason.

Friday's game was scoreless until the late stages of the game. In the 78th minute, Centennial's Ashton Vaz scored on a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes before Vaz's opening goal, Durham had a penalty kick chance of their own but failed to convert.

With Durham pressing for the equalizer, Centennial would score in transition as Liam Cox notched his second goal of the season in the 86th minute.

The Lords dominated the first half outshooting Centennial 5-1 but could not find a way to beat goalkeeper Tristan Martino.

Durham (4-3-1) will close out the season with games against the St. Lawrence Vikings (0-7-1) and Fleming Knights (2-4-1). The Lords match against St. Lawrence on Friday, Oct. 13 will be their final regular season home game. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m.
