OTTAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team fell 74-72 to the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday afternoon.
In an evenly matched game, the Lords led the Thunder 38-37 at halftime.
Algonquin had a better third and fourth quarter – barely outscoring Durham 14-12 and 23-22 en route to their two-point victory in their first meeting of the season.
Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, Ont.) led Durham with 22 points, while
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) scored 17. The pair also had a team-high five rebounds apiece.
Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) and
Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.) added 13 and 10 points respectively.
On the opposite end of the court the home team was led by Kristian Charette's 29 points offensively. Shymar Brewster and Ameer El-Badry were also in double-digit scoring with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Denis Dervisevic was only three points off a double-double after finishing the night with seven points and 10 boards.
Durham returns to action on Sunday afternoon as they face the La Cité Coyotes (0-8) at 1 p.m. in Ottawa.
They wrap up the opening half of the season with a busy week on the road against Centennial on Wednesday and Friday at home against the Fleming Knights.
