Durham oh-so-close in another five-setter

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Heading to a fifth set for the fourth time this season, the Durham Lords men's volleyball team came up just short falling 3-2 on the road versus the Loyalist Lancers on Friday night. Set scores for the five set thriller were 25-23, 25-27, 25-27, 25-23, 12-15.

As the set scores showcase, the two teams were evenly matched throughout the entirety of the five sets with neither team pulling away for a convincing set win. In the end, the Loyalist defence may have been the difference as the home squad recorded 56 digs to just 35 for the Lords.

Durham will be right back it this Sunday, traveling to North Bay to challenge the Canadore Panthers. First serve for the road matchup is set for 3 p.m.  
  • Durham's Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) recorded 20 or more points for the third time this season, finishing the evening with 15 kills, three service aces and two blocks. Krabi has now recorded double-digit points in seven of 10 matches played this year.
• Both Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) and Dalton Halligan (Cobourg, Ont.) recorded 15 points apiece. Pichl notched 10 kills and five blocks, while Halligan registered 13 kills and two service aces.
• Josh Roberts led all players with a game-high 24 points, leading the Lancers with an impressive 21 kills, two service aces and one block.
  Kyler Woodburne (Bowmanville, Ont.) guided the Lords offence, registering his best game yet at the setter position with a season-high 38 assists.
• Along with being a force offensively, Krabi also led Durham on the defensive side with 10 digs, while Pichl and libero Mitchell Hallett (Oshawa, Ont.) added six respectively.
• Jeremy Driedger recorded a game-high 47 assists for Loyalist, while three different Lancers notched double-digit digs, led by Matt Bridgeland's 17.
