OSHAWA, Ont. – Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) didn't let her special night affect her play as she put up 30 points in Durham College's 72-52 victory over the Georgian Grizzlies on Friday.
The sport management major was recognized after the women's basketball game with a short ceremony for her accomplishment of being named a CCAA All-Canadian in 2014-15 after leading the country in scoring in her first year with Durham. Panchan, alongside teammate
Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.), unveiled her banner, which will now hang in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
Marshall added 16 points in the Lords win, which improved their record to 7-4 this season.
Georgian leaned on the offensive skills of Hannah Pearsall, who had 22 points in the loss for the Grizzlies. Kaylee Forsyth finished with seven points and seven boards for the Grizzlies.
Durham trailed early, but after going down 12-8 stormed back to take a 19-12 lead after the first quarter. Georgian closed the gap to two points late in the second quarter, but that was as close as they would get with the Lords leading 40-29 at half.
The Lords outscored Georgian 18-5 and 14-8 in the final two quarters en route to their victory.
Durham will now have an extended break as they prepare for their road trip to the nation's capital to take on the Algonquin Thunder on Feb. 13. They are four points back of the Algonquin Thunder for first in the OCAA east division and two points up on the third place Seneca Sting and Loyalist Lancers.
