TORONTO, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team head into their home opener on Tuesday without a loss in conference play after defeating the George Brown Huskies 82-72 on the road on Saturday.
Durham led 21-13 after the first quarter of play, but the Huskies closed the gap to four points at halftime to trail 37-33. The Lords didn't give up their lead as they led by seven heading into the final quarter, which they also outscored George Brown in, 24-21.
Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) was dominant as she scored 36 points for the Lords, while having her second double-double is as many games with 24 boards (eight offensive and 16 defensive).
Madeleine Dender (Ajax, Ont.) added 13 points for Durham, while
Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) was two points and one assist from a double-double.
George Brown's Tianna Sullivan led the Huskies with 26 points and six rebounds, while Angel Mbikay had a double-double scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds. Faye Tomatuk also had a double-double for George Brown with her 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Durham College (2-0) will now return home to face the Seneca Sting (0-0) on Tuesday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
