OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team lived up to the hype in their season opener, defeating the visiting Georgian Grizzlies 73-29 on Friday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
Touting their defensive prowess ahead of the season, DC completely shut down the Georgian attack, holding the Grizzlies to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters and just 23 percent shooting from the field. The Lords also forced the Grizzlies into 39 turnovers in front of the home crowd, compared to just eight committed by Durham.Â
Durham dominated in the paint, outscoring Georgian 54-14 close to the basket. The largest lead on the night for the Lords matched the final score differential of 44 points.
The Lords will next head to Ottawa the challenge the Algonquin Thunder on Friday, Oct. 25. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. with all the action set to be streamed on
OCAA LIVE.

Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) once again was outstanding for Durham, scoring a game-high 19 pointsÂ
• Entering her sophomore campaign after being named the OCAA rookie of the year last fall,
Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) chipped in 13 points in 22 minutes of action.
• Katie Murray and Tiarra Robinson each tallied seven points for Georgian.

• Oliver picked up a double-double adding 13 rebounds, including six off the offensive glass. She also added six assists, eight steals, and one block.
• Stasiuk added seven rebounds, two assists and four steals to fill up the stat sheet.
• Murray grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
