OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's soccer team was unable to come-from-behind twice on Friday night as the Algonquin Thunder defeated the Lords 2-1 in Durham's final regular season home game.
Ali Albadry opened the scoring for Algonquin in the 13
th minute, but before halftime
Conor Lowe (Whitby, Ont.) tied the match in the 30
th minute.
Tied 1-1 heading into the final 45 minutes, the Lords lost their captain
Bruce Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) for the remainder of the match in the early moments of the second.
With a deep bench Durham continue to hold their own against the CCAA no. 3 ranked Thunder, but in the 58
th minute Alex Asmis scored off a scramble in front of the Lords net to put Algonquin ahead 2-1.
The Lords pressured with numerous chances, including
Cody Kraemer (Whitby, Ont.) hitting the crossbar in extra time off a free-kick, but when the final whistle went they had suffered the same 2-1 loss they did on Sept. 11 in Ottawa.
Mark Kamstra (Newcastle, Ont.) made six saves in the loss for the Lords, while Dylan Tessier made seven in the Thunder win.
Durham will now wait for the conclusion of the regular season to see who they will play in an OCAA championship qualifying game next week.
