Durham overpowers Algonquin for home opener win

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over the visiting Algonquin Thunder in their home opener at the CRWC on Saturday night. Set scores for the contest were 25-20, 20-25, 26-24, 25-13.

The Lords offence was well balanced as five different players recorded six or more kills on the evening, led by an 18 point performance from second-year outside hitter Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.).

The game also served as a special night with the Durham Rebels Volleyball Club in attendance, alongside the Lords Think Pink initiative which saw donations at the door and a portion of concession sales donated to breast cancer research.

Durham will look to continue their hot start to the season tomorrow afternoon when they welcome the La Cité Coyotes to the CRWC. Donations will once again be accepted as part of the Lords Think Pink home opening weekend. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
