MEN’S BASKETBALL WRAP FIRST HALF WITH BIG WIN
Connor Laronde had a season high 34 points to lead the Grizzlies to a huge second half and a 88-67 victory over Fleming.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team played their final game of the first half of the season on Saturday afternoon as they travelled to face the Fleming Knights in Peterborough, ON.
The two teams played an evenly matched game in the first half with Georgian trailing by one point 39-38.
Playing with a shortened bench, the Grizzlies needed a big effort from their group.
They got that from third year veteran Connor Laronde. The Barrie native scored a season high 34 points to lead the Grizzlies to an 88-67 victory.
Laronde shot an incredible 72% from the field while also adding nine rebounds. He was key in the Grizzlies second half attack which netted 50 points.
Teammate Daniel Martyn (Barrie) also had a season high with an 18 point effort while Aaron Sutton (Newmarket) led the team with 10 rebounds along with eight points.
The Grizzlies head into the break with a 6-4 record and sit fifth in the OCAA east division standings.
Georgian will have a few weeks to reset and get ready for a big second half which kicks off on Jan. 17 when the Grizzlies travel to play the Centennial Colts.
The next Grizzlies home game will take place on Saturday, Jan. 20 in a rematch against the Fleming Knights at 1 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
