Lords hold on to defeat Colts, move into tie for second place

OSHAWA, Ont. - After holding a 20-point lead heading into the fourth quarter the Durham College women's basketball team nearly let the Centennial Colts come back, but the Lords held on for a 68-63 win.

Durham was led by Lindsay Panchan's (Ajax, Ont.) 30 points and 12 rebounds, which continues her streak of a double-double in each conference game this season. Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) picked up 13 points and four rebounds.

The Colts offence was evenly distributed with Maryem Serradilla-Sonmez leading he way with 12 points. Ana Casado and Megan Esses each added 11 points, while Sweet Cunanan led Centennial with 12 rebounds.

The Lords never surrendered their lead in the game, but did allow Centennial to tie the game 18-18 after one quarter of play. By halftime Durham had pushed their lead to eight.

After three quarters Durham led 60-40.

In the fourth quarter the Lords got into foul trouble early, which allowed the Colts to close the gap quickly. Between baskets for Durham the Colts had 6-0 and 10-0 runs, which got them to within five, down 64-60. The Lords then hit the remainder of their eight fourth-quarter points in the final minutes to earn their sixth win of the season.

Durham now has the week off as they prepare for the Georgian Grizzlies who will be in town next Friday, Jan. 29. Tip-off will be 6 p.m.
