DC continues to own eastern opponents

OSHAWA, Ont. – Ranked No. 9 in the country, the Durham College women's volleyball extended their undefeated streak to start the 2019-20 season to 6-0 after defeating the visiting Georgian Grizzlies in straight sets on Friday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Set scores were 25-17, 25-17, 25-21.

The Lords have been unstoppable, dropping just one set over their first six matches this season. Meanwhile, Durham's current unbeaten streak versus east division opponents continues to grow to 25 consecutive wins now following the Friday night victory. Every player in the Lords lineup saw time on the court over the three sets this evening, with six players recording five or more points offensively.

DC will hit the road for two matches beginning with a showdown in Scarborough with the Centennial Colts this Monday, Nov. 18. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the match being streamed on OCAA LIVE.
  • Veteran outside hitters Jessica Joensen (Newcastle, Ont.) and Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.) each recorded a team-high nine points in the win. Joensen recorded nine kills over three sets, while Boncheff notched six kills, one ace, and two blocks in just two sets of work.
• A pair of third-year middles in Cassidy Nicholson-Clarke (Ajax, Ont.) and Alexa Armstrong (Whitby, Ont.) both recorded seven points as the Lords dominated at the net. Nicholson-Clarke had five kills and two blocks, while Armstrong four kills and three blocked shots.  
• Georgian's Domenica De Francesco finished the match with a game-high 10 points from six kills, three aces, and one block.
  • Second-year setter Georgi Williams (Whitby, Ont.) was once again the guiding force of the Lords with 28 assists, adding two kills and seven digs defensively.
• Four DC players recorded six or more digs, led by eight from Joensen.
• Sophia Clement served as the primary setter for the Grizzlies with 18 assists, while Carina Brooks registered a team-high six digs.
  Overall Record: 16-6
