OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's basketball team earned their 13th win of the season, defeating the visiting La Cité Coyotes by a final of 103-81 on Saturday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
The 22-point win saw Durham break the century mark for the first time this season, having last achieved the same feat a year ago against the Coyotes in a 108-87 Lords victory on Feb. 18, 2018.
The Lords proved to be most effective from behind the three point line, nailing 11 three-point field goals, along with dominating inside the paint, outrebounding the Coyotes 59-39. Jumping out to a quick 17-8 lead after the first quarter, the Lords scored back-to-back 30-plus point quarters in the second and third to enter the final frame ahead 83-47. La Cité bounced back to outscore the Lords in the fourth, but the gap created by the explosive Durham offence was far too large to be overcome.
With third place secured, Durham will host an OCAA crossover qualifying game next Saturday, Feb. 23 against the fifth place team from the OCAA west division, which is still undetermined heading into the final regular season games tomorrow. The Lords will tip off with the Algonquin Thunder in their regular season finale at the CRWC tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. Tip off for the crossover next Saturday, which will propel the winner to the OCAA championship hosted by Georgian College from Feb. 28 to Mar. 2., is set for 8 p.m. Â
