Sting Fall to Coyotes

The Seneca Sting dropped the second consecutive match of the weekend, falling in four sets to the La Cité Coyotes 20-25, 25-16, 19-25, 21-25.

The size of the Coyotes was vital to their victory today, finishing with a 48-33 advantage in kills and 12 blocks to the Sting's 4. Overall, the Sting finished with a higher hitting percentage, but the Coyotes had 17 more attack attempts, keeping the Sting on the defensive for the majority of the match.

Defensively, the Coyotes finished with a 60-40 advantage in digs, showing a knack for extending rallies and setting up their offense where setter Xavier Demers excelled in spreading the ball around to the Coyotes attackers. Sting setter Savino Marques did his best to lead the Sting, finishing with a team-high 14 digs and 30 assists.

The Sting were led offensively by Malik Welsh who finished with 15 kills and 3 aces to go along with 7 digs. Toms Gaikis had 11 kills, but struggled against the bigger Coyotes as he attempted 38 attacks. Libero Richard Ngo added 8 digs.

The Coyotes had a balanced attack with Alexandre Huard (14 kills, 7 digs), Nicolas Pirnat (13 kills, 13 digs, 3 blocks) and Michel Leblanc (13 kills, 11 digs) all finishing with double-digit kills. Mikael Gareau had a match-high 15 digs.
