OSHAWA, Ont. – Playing in the 25
th home opener in program history, the Durham College baseball team had no trouble producing runs as they scored 31 in two wins over the George Brown Huskies.
The Lords only needed five innings in game one as they beat George Brown 16-1. In game two, Durham was one run shy of reaching the ten run mercy mark, winning by a score of 15-6.
With the pair of wins Durham improves to 4-0 in OCAA conference play and 8-0 overall.
Shaun Slemko (Courtice, Ont.) got the start in game one and gave up one earned run over four innings of work. The left-handed veteran allowed four hits and struck out seven.
Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) was perfect at the plate going 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.
Jack Lang (Pickering, Ont.) also had a big game going 2-for-4 with a game high four RBIs and two runs.
Tristan Willcocks (Whitby, Ont.) and Brendan Dadson (Bowmanville, Ont.) had two hits apiece while
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) knocked in three runs.
In game two, head coach
Sam Dempster completely switched his starting lineup replacing all nine players. With all of the changes the results were still the same as they scored 15 runs on 16 hits.
Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.), who pitched a complete game shutout on Friday, was 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs and an RBI. Catcher
Braden Weir (Whitby, Ont.) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while
Jake Storry (Port Perry, Ont.),
Eric Beharri (Burlington, Ont.) and Tyler Nixon (Markham, Ont.) had two hits apiece.
Travis Doyle (Grimsby, Ont.) allowed four earned runs on five hits over 3.2 innings of work while Stewart pitched 2.1 innings in relief letting in one earned run.
Cole Casford (Kingston, Ont.) closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
Durham will head to Buffalo, N.Y. on Wednesday for an exhibition doubleheader against the Erie Kats before going on an important road trip to St. Clair and Fanshawe on the weekend.
