(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Falcons Women's Soccer team won the OCAA bronze medal at the Provincial Championship in Sudbury. The Falcons defeated the Seneca Sting by a score of 2-1.

On Thursday, Fanshawe defeated Durham in the quarterfinal game 2-0. Hailey Corvari (Orangeville, ON) opened the scoring for the Falcons in the second half on a beautiful cross from Chelsea Zavitz (St. Thomas, ON). Zavitz then added a goal of her own to put the game away. Goalkeeper Ali Vlasman (Mount Elgin, ON) was named player of the game for keeping the Lords scoreless in 90 minutes.

In the semi-final on Friday, Fanshawe fell 2-0 to the Humber Hawks.  After the first half, the score remained 0-0, however Humber would score in the 73rd minute to take the lead. The Hawks would add an insurance marker at the final whistle to take the game. Fanshawe's player of the game for the semi-final was Zavitz.

Despite Fanshawe controlling most of the possession in the first half of the bronze medal game, Seneca opened the scoring to go up 1-0. The Sting then had another opportunity when a Falcons foul in the box led to a penalty kick, which Vlasman saved to keep Fanshawe within reach. Fanshawe would then have to play the remainder of the game with only 10 players as OCAA All-Star Selena Roberts (London, ON) was given a red card. The Falcons tied the game on a penalty kick of their own scored by Zavitz in the 71st minute.  Only four minutes later, Zavitz scored her second of the game from outside the 18 yard box to give Fanshawe the lead. The Falcons defence would hold strong though as they controlled the play and would defeat Seneca 2-1 to win the 2017 OCAA bronze medal. Alex Clements (London, ON) was named player of the game and Zavitz was named a Tournament All-Star.
