OSHAWA, Ont. – In their second meeting of the season, the Durham College men's soccer team dropped only their second game of the season with a 1-0 loss to the visiting Algonquin Thunder.
The start of the game was headlined by defensive play at both ends as neither team could register their first shot attempt until the Thunder managed it in the 20
th minute. Only a minute later, Malek Belhaj (Tripoli, Libya) put Algonquin ahead on the second shot of the game.
Algonquin led 1-0 as the clock read 45 minutes for the halftime break, outshooting the Lords 3-1.
The second half looked much like the first as the back lines on both teams were the stars of the evening. Things got a little heated toward the end as Durham picked up two yellow cards:
Bruce Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) in the 79
th minute (his second of the season) and
Colin Reilly (Whitby, Ont.) in the 88
th minute with his first of the year.
As the Thunder doubled Durham in shots 6-3 by the time the whistle blew,
Dylan Yeo (Newmarket, Ont.) finished with four saves on the night for the Lords.
