TORONTO – The Durham College baseball team's win streak against George Brown came to an end on Tuesday night after the Huskies picked up a 6-5 victory in game two of their doubleheader at Christie Pits.
Durham's last loss to George Brown came back on Sept. 29, 2013 when the Huskies scored three runs in the sixth inning in a 3-1 comeback victory.
The Lords started off the night looking impressive in game one winning 14-3 in six innings, picking up their third straight win over the Huskies.
Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four. Harkness has a 3-1 record and entered tonight's action second in OCAA earned run average at 1.67.
Dryden Norton (Prince Edward County, Ont.) led the offence with three hits, two RBI and a run scored while
Connor May (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.) had two hits apiece.
Brown took to the mound in game two and had his shortest outing in his career, completing just one inning and allowing six runs (three earned).
Jake Storry (Port Perry, Ont.) was outstanding in relief allowing just one hit over the next five innings of work giving the Lords a fighting chance to get back in the game.
Durham scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-5 but could not find a way to score in the next two innings as the Huskies picked up the win.
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) was 3-for-4 at the plate, as he increased his batting average that was .417 entering the night.
Ryan Bothwell (Napanee, Ont.) and
Joshua Chaulk (Oshawa, Ont.) had two hits apiece in the loss.
Durham, who has already booked a spot in the OCAA championship, sits in third place with a 10-6 record and trail the St. Clair Saints and Humber Hawks by two games. Fanshawe is in fourth place with a 7-9 record, three games back of the Lords.
The Lords will take on the first-place Humber Hawks on Saturday, Oct. 14 on the road. First pitch at Connorvale Park is 1 p.m.
