OSHAWA, Ont. – After splitting the first two games of the 2018-19 season on the road, the Durham College women's basketball team returned to their home court on Tuesday evening, earning an 88-62 victory over the Centennial Colts.
This was the third straight season home court has been a friend to the Lords to kick off the season and back-to-back years defeating the Colts in their home opener.
The teams jockeyed for the lead throughout the first quarter before the Lords found their game in the second, boasting a 42-30 lead going into the break. However, the resilient Colts stormed out of the gate to begin the second half, riding a 15-2 run to briefly steal the lead.
Durham responded in the final frame with an overwhelming offensive onslaught, dishing up 31 points on the back of a 63 per cent shooting from the field. The Lords proved particularly strong in the paint, picking up 44 points from in tight; they also capitalized on Colts fouls, sinking 80 per cent from the free-throw line.
That said, there won't be time to savour home court advantage as the Lords are right back on the road for a Friday tilt in North York with the Seneca Sting. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
• First-year forward
Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) commanded the floor for the Lords, earning the lone double-double of the night with 10 rebounds and 20 points.

Dekota Kirby (Markham, Ont.) was the Lords' ironwoman, playing 37 minutes, and contributing nine assists and a game-high 21 points.
• The Lords offensive depth proved instrumental in their victory, with
Alyssa Navarro (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) earning 12 and 14 points respectively off the bench.
• Judy Ta's 14 points was tops for the Colts.
• Alongside Navarro,
Emily Chamberlain (Kingston, Ont.) was a fierce presence in the paint for the Lords, picking up seven rebounds to finish tied for second on the team.
• Olivia Thomson's eight rebounds led the Colts.
• Durham finished with 47 total rebounds, just edging the Colts' 45 on the night.
