Durham College atop east region with win over Centennial

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team remained undefeated early in the season, with an 87-76 win over the Centennial Colts on home court, picking up their first regular season win against Centennial since Nov. 27, 2015.

Durham and Centennial went back and forth for most of the opening quarter, but Durham would ultimately have a 20-17 lead to show for it after ten minutes.

The hosts nearly doubled their opponents in the second quarter as the Lords outscored the Colts 23-12 for a total score of 43-29 at halftime. Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) picked up where he left off last weekend scoring 15 points in 16:01 of court time in the opening half. The Lords benefited in the first half from a strong 54.5 per cent success rate on shots.

Led by Brandon Halliburton's (Brampton, Ont.) 10 points, the Lords rolled through the third quarter with 29 total. On top of a great offensive performance, the Lords picked up seven defensive rebounds in the quarter to send the play the other way, with two each from Trea Lawson (Whitby, Ont.) and Dimeji.

Late in the third quarter and for much of the fourth quarter, the Colts chipped away at a deficit as large as 29. Much of this was done with a 21-point performance by Kendall Wilson for Centennial.

Halliburton led the Lords in points with 26. Dimeji wasn't far off with 24 points, seven rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal to his stat line, giving the duo a combined 50 points on the night.

The Lords look ahead to a two-game road trip this weekend as they make the trip to Ottawa to take on the Algonquin Thunder and La Cite Coyotes on Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29.
