Lords continue good form with third straight win

OSHAWA, Ont. – Paced by three first-half goals, the Durham College women's soccer team claimed a 4-0 victory over the St. Lawrence Vikings.

The Lords took an early lead in the fourth minute when Jacklyn Brzezinski (Ajax, Ont.) found Milinda Roblero (Pickering, Ont.) open in the box who tapped home from close range.

Durham made it two in the 10th minute, but this time it was Roblero teeing up Brzezinski for the finish to give the Lords a comfortable lead early.

The Vikings settled into the game as it continued and slowed the Lords defence, but Jenna King (Ajax, Ont.) was rarely threatened as the Lords led 2-0 heading into halftime.

"We created some early opportunities and took advantage of them allowing us to settle in and play a pretty controlled game," said head coach Alex Bianchi. "We moved the ball nicely at times, which stretched the other team. We need to be better on our attacking corner kicks as we had too many wasted opportunities that you can't let get away. That said, it was nice to see us capitalize on a free kick with a goal by Vanessa Juras on a rocket of a shot."

The Lords grabbed a third in the 71st minute when Roblero picked up her second assist of the match as she found Natassha Hassenstein (Oshawa, Ont.) whose shot was nicely placed into the top corner.

Vanessa Juras (Ajax, Ont.) rounded out the scoring for Durham College nailing a free kick into the top right corner from just outside the 18-yard box.

The Lords strong defence helped King get her fourth clean sheet of the season as they went on to claim a 4-0 win and are now tied for first in the OCAA east region with Seneca.

The Lords welcome the Centennial Colts on Thursday, Oct. 4 as they continue to challenge for top spot.
  Overall Record: 7-5-1 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 6-2-1

Next match: Thursday, Oct. 4 vs. Centennial Colts (6 p.m. – Vaso's Field)
