KINGSTON, Ont. - The Durham Lords women's soccer team delivered a convincing 6-1 road victory over the St. Lawrence Vikings on Friday night in Kingston, Ont.
"I'm very happy with the effort we displayed tonight," said Lords head coach
Alex Bianchi. "We were not rewarded with goals in the first half, but we stayed to the plan and kept up our work rate which resulted in our big second half scoring output. When we play with pace we are at our best."
The Vikings were first on the board, opening the scoring in the 28th minute of action.
Playing with pace, the Lords drew a penalty kick with
Madison Haigh (Bowmanville, Ont.) showcasing a clinical finish from the spot in the 36th minute to even the score 1-1 before the break.
Following halftime it was clear that the Lords were in good shape as
Natassha Hassenstein (Oshawa, Ont.) secured the lead in the 61st minute with what would become the game-winning goal.
Just four minutes after taking the lead, Haigh picked up her second goal of the game. The second half onslaught would continue as
Cory Lapointe (Whitby, Ont.) scored in the 71st and
Milinda Roblero (Pickering, Ont.) notched two in extra-time.
Durham is right back at it tomorrow afternoon as they travel to the nation's capital to challenge the Algonquin Thunder. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
