Durham hands St. Clair first loss of the season

WINDSOR, ON - Carrying momentum from two big wins the day prior, the Durham College men's baseball team handed the OCAA leading St. Clair Saints their first loss of the season in a 16-12 Game 1 victory, before dropping Game 2 of the Saturday afternoon doubleheader in Windsor 15-5.

With hot bats following the two wins over Lambton on Friday night, DC produced 16 runs from 21 hits in the first game in Windsor, highlighted by a three-run home run from first-year outfielder Cam Lugtenburg (Bowmanville, ON) in the fourth inning of a wild high-scoring game. Durham scored a run in every inning but the third of the opening contest, with four Lords batters registering multiple RBI in the win.

After winning three games in a row, the Lords momentum however came to a halt, dropping the second game in just five innings after conceding an eight run fifth inning to the Saints.

The Lords will look to continue their winning ways after the 3-1 road trip, returning home to Kinsmen Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 7 for their regular season home finale. Facing off with the George Brown Huskies, first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
  Game 1
• Four Lords batters recorded three or more hits in the offensive outburst, highlighted by Lugtenburg's 4-for-5 day, including four RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Wendel Johnson (Whitby, ON), Cruz Lopez (Brooklin, ON), and Griffin Oliver (Oshawa, ON) all registered three hits each for DC in the big road win.
• Having a good offensive day for the Saints, Brendan Renaud finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run in Game 1
Game 2
• In Game 2 of the doubleheader Lopez added another two RBI and a run, on top of the three RBI and three runs he scored in the first game.
• Durham catcher Josh Arce (Oshawa, ON) also scored two RBI in the loss, finishing the second game 1-for-3.
• Leading the charge in the Saints big fifth inning was Renaud once again, as he ended Game 2 going 2-for-3 with a walk and four RBI.
  Game 1
Jason Crouse (Oshawa, ON) drew the start for the Lords going 4.1 innings, striking out five, while conceding five walks, seven hits and seven earned runs.
• Durham pitchers Ryan Fisher (Bradford, ON) and Landon Bentley (Courtice, ON) appeared in relief in the win.
Game 2
• Appearing short for arms in the fourth game in just two days, DC used six pitchers in the shortened Game 2, with Aidan Carbray (Oakville, ON) being handed the loss.
• Earning the win for the Saints, Aden Ryan went the full five innings, holding the Lords to five runs on six hits.
  Overall Record: 5-8 (W-L)
Conference Record: 4-5

Next match: Thursday, Oct. 7 vs. George Brown Huskies (6/8:15 p.m. - Durham Field)
