OSHAWA, Ont. – The No. 9 ranked Durham College men's soccer team handed the No. 12 ranked Seneca Sting their first loss of the season winning by a final score of 2-0 on Friday night.
 
Durham takes over top spot in the east region with a 4-1-0 record, sitting six points ahead of Seneca (2-1-0), Centennial (2-1-0) and Algonquin (2-2-0), all of which the Lords have beat this season.
 
After several missed opportunities for Durham throughout the first half, it was Austin MacDonell (Pickering, Ont.) who finally broke the ice as he busted out of his scoring slump in a big way. The Lords veteran headed in a cross from Robert Baxter-Dennis (Scarborough, Ont.) for a beautiful goal that would end up being the eventual game winner.
 
With ten minutes to go in the second half, Durham added some insurance as they capitalized off a set play. Nicholas Axhorn (Pickering, Ont.) perfectly timed a header off a cross from Bruce Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) to put the Lords up 2-0.
 
Dylan Yeo (Newmarket, Ont.) would earn the clean sheet in goal for Durham, his third in five games.
 
Durham has outscored their opponents 13-3 this season en route to their 4-1-0 record.
 
The Lords will be in tough next week when they face Algonquin at home in a rematch of their season opener, where Durham beat the Thunder 2-0. The match will take place on Friday, Sept. 29 at Vaso's Field. Kick off is at 8:15 p.m.
