OSHAWA, Ont. – Trailing 10-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Durham College men's baseball team started a rally and brought three home, but with two on base with two out were unable to complete the comeback against the St. Clair Saints as they fell 10-7.
The loss completed the doubleheader, which St. Clair swept after opening with a 9-0 victory.
Durham was behind from the beginning of each game as they allowed five runs in the top of the first in the second half of the doubleheader. St. Clair added two more in the second and three more in the third to lead 10-4 after three innings.
The heart of the order put together a string of hits for the Lords in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to bring home the final three runs needed to tie the game.
Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.) was 3-for-4 with two runs to lead Durham's offence.
Dryden Norton (Prince Edward County, Ont.) wasn't far off going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Joshua Chaulk (Oshawa, Ont.) made the most of his one hit as he led the team with two RBIs.
Garik Godard led the Saints offence going 1-for-4 with three RBIs.
Johnathon McIntosh (Bowmanville, Ont.) took the loss for the Lords. Over an inning of work he allowed five earned runs on two hits and four walks. Chris Carter (Port Perry, Ont.) allowed two earned runs on a hit and two walks in one inning of relief, followed by
Mitchell Heineman (Pickering, Ont.) who allowed three runs on five hits and a walk over four innings of work.
Taylor Pappin threw six innings in the win, holding the Lords to four earned runs on eight hits and three walks, while striking out three.
In the opening game of the day the Lords had a similar start, trailing 2-0 after the opening half inning. Durham pressed in the bottom half, but stranded a pair of runners.
St. Clair added another in the bottom of the second, two in the bottom of four and four in the bottom of the fifth to push their lead to 9-0.
Durham's offence was led by
Brian Wowk (Oshawa, Ont.) going 2-for-3.
Godard had the Lords' number in key moments on Sunday, driving in three runs and scoring once as he went 1-for-4.
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) took the loss after going four complete. He allowed eight runs, five earned, on nine hits and five walks.
Eric Beharri (Burlington, Ont.) threw three innings in relief, allowing only one run on one hit. Both pitchers struck out two Saints.
Micah Harris threw a complete game shutout for St. Clair, striking out seven Lords and allowing only five hits.
After a busy weekend the Lords now have the week off as their next game isn't until September 27 when the travel to North York to face the Seneca Sting.
