OSHAWA, Ont. – The OCAA baseball championship host Durham Lords struggled on Saturday in their home opener as they were swept by the St. Clair Saints.
St. Clair defeated the Lords 10-5 and 15-1 at Kinsmen Stadium, the first sweep of a doubleheader by the Saints since 2017 in Windsor.
Durham has an opportunity to get in the win column on Sunday afternoon when they host the Lambton Lions at 1 p.m.
GAME 1
•
Sam Cawker (Courtice, Ont.) was the Lords' best hitter in the game, going 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.
• Ryley Vernon led the Saints bats going 3-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBIs.
GAME 2
• Ryley Vernon's bat was hot again in the second game for St. Clair as he led the team 4-for-5 from the plate with a run scored and four RBIs.
• Reagan Manley (Peterborough, Ont.) and
Riley Gray (Caledonia, Ont.) had the Lords two hits in the game.
GAME 1
•
Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.) took the loss for Durham, giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits and a walk, while striking out five batters in five innings pitched.
Justin Travis (Oshawa, Ont.) allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks over two innings.
•Micah Harris was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings.
GAME 2
• Travis Snyder picked up the Saints win, pitching all seven innings. He allowed one earned run on two hits and three walks.
• Jason Crouse (Oshawa, Ont.) took the loss. He gave up seven earned runs on six hits and three walks in one inning of work.
