Box Score BELLEVILLE, Ont. - It's not how you start, it's how you finish.
That was the case for the Durham College women's volleyball team on Wednesday night as they defeated the Loyalist Lancers 3-1 in Belleville.
Durham dropped the opening set 22-25 and found themselves down 24-23 in set two. After head coach
Tony Clarke called a timeout, Durham stormed back with three straight points to take the set 26-24.
The Lords would dominate that match from that point forward winning the final two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-11 to sweep the season series 2-0 over Loyalist.
Making her return to Loyalist,
Kristen Curtis (Frankford, Ont.) had a solid game recording six kills, four blocks and four service aces. Curtis played two seasons with the Lancers in 2011-12 and 2012-13 where she was a CCAA national scholar.
Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.) continued to be a force up the middle for Durham as she posted a game-high five blocks. She also added eight kills and two aces to lead the team in scoring with 15 points.
Freshman setter
Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) had a season-high 32 assists, with
Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) on the receiving end of seven of them. Broad is now just two kills shy of Mandi Doris for the Durham College all-time kills record.
Stephanie Larose (Whitby, Ont.) also had seven kills in the win.
Durham (11-1) is tied for top spot in the OCAA eastern conference standings with the Canadore Panthers (11-1). Loyalist remains in third place with a 9-4 record.
Up next for Durham is a road match against the George Brown Huskies (2-9) on Saturday afternoon.
