CHATHAM, Ont. – The first-place St. Clair Saints extended their lead over the Humber Hawks on Saturday after sweeping the Durham College men's baseball team in Chatham.
St. Clair breezed to victory 9-1 in the opening game. Durham gave the Saints a game in the second half of the doubleheader, but were unable to hold onto their early lead as they fell 7-5.
Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.) took the loss in the opening game, going five innings. He allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out four.
At the plate
Connor May (Oshawa, Ont.) had the lone RBI for the Lords, going 1-for-4.
Dryden Norton (Prince Edward County, Ont.) was 2-for-3 with a double.
In the second game,
Eric Beharri (Burlington, Ont.) went two innings in the loss. He allowed three runs, none earned, on three hits and four walks.
Mitchell Heineman (Pickering, Ont.) came into the game in relief, throwing four innings. He allowed three earned runs on two hits and two walks.
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) was 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI, two runs and a homerun.
Ryan Bothwell (Napanee, Ont.) also had a good game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
May's second game offensively was solid as he finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks.
Durham wraps up their weekend road trip with a doubleheader against the Fanshawe Falcons on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
