No. 4 ranked Lords upset by Fleming

OSHAWA, Ont. – The No. 4 ranked Durham College men's soccer team was upset on Friday night as the Fleming Knights earned a 2-0 shutout win at Vaso's field.

Despite 24 shots attempts, Durham's offence was shut down with Fleming goalkeeper Sam Barratt earning the clean sheet.

The game was scoreless until the 54th minute when Fleming's Matthew Dawe put a slow spin shot behind Durham goalkeeper Dylan Yeo (Newmarket, Ont.) to put the Knights up 1-0.

With Durham pressing for the equalizer, Fleming managed to turn the ball up field where Joyal Gurung put a strike in the top left hand corner adding to their lead.

Bruce Cullen's (Pickering, Ont.) effort did not go unnoticed with several chances and shots on goal but the Lords captain was snake bit as he hit the post on two occasions including a cheeky shot through three defenders in the 75th minute.

Both teams were highly aggressive with nine yellow cards and one red being shown.

The Lords will not have any time to dwell on this loss as they take on the St. Lawrence Vikings on Saturday afternoon in Kingston. The Vikes are 0-1-0 to start the season after opening with a 3-1 loss to Centennial. Game time is 3:15 p.m.
