TORONTO, Ont. – The No. 9 ranked Durham College men's volleyball team won their seventh straight match on Saturday afternoon to improve to 10-1 on the season and stay within reach of the first-place Georgian Grizzlies.
Up against the George Brown Huskies (5-5), Durham started slow in the opening set – only winning 25-22 – but consistently improved to win 25-19 and 25-15 to take back-to-back matches in straight sets.
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) and
Andrew Dube (Uxbridge, Ont.) each had a team-high nine points in the victory. Watson led with eight kills and a block, while Dube had seven kills and two aces.
At the net defensively
Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) led with three blocks. Wood,
Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, Ont.) and
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) all added four kills.
The offence was all run through
John Pham (Mississauga, Ont.) who finished with 26 assists and two kills.
Next weekend the Lords will take their annual trip to the nation's capital for games against Algonquin on Saturday and La Cité on Sunday.
Their next home game will be January 26 against the first-place Georgian Grizzlies. First serve will be 8 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
