OTTAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team swept the La Cité Coyotes on Sunday afternoon to come home with a 5-2 record heading into their final two games of the semester.
Durham had little trouble, winning 25-13, 25-18 and the closest set being 25-19 to end the match.
Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) and
Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) finished with team-high six kills apiece. Terwillegar also added two aces.
At the net
Madison McBurney (Whitby, Ont.) and
Jonika Babb (Oshawa, Ont.) each had three blocks to lead the match.
Defensive specialist
Nicole Vandenheuvel (Whitby, Ont.) finished the night with three kills, a notable stat for the Lords as she only had four in her OCAA career heading into the match, all of which were against the Fleming Knights this November.
This week Durham hosts a pair of home games on Tuesday against George Brown and Thursday against Centennial. First serve is 6 p.m. on both nights.
As part of the annual holiday food drive on campus, at each Durham College home game, the student-athletes are asking for spectators to bring along a non-perishable food item or items to help support those less fortunate. Those who bring in a donation will receive a free bag of popcorn.
The holiday food drive provides hampers of food to families of students in need, helping make the holidays a little happier.
