Lords defeat Vikings for the second time a week

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team picked up second win over the St. Lawrence Vikings in back-to-back meetings, this time in thrilling fashion by a 78-75 score.
 
St. Lawrence was in town a week ago for their first meeting of the season which Durham came out victorious in a 79-60 win. The Lords came into the game looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking six-point loss against George Brown on Tuesday.
 
Through seven games this season the Lords have proven to be a high offence team – averaging 78.6 points per game and 19.6 points per quarter. The offence continued that trend into this game, putting up 20 points in the first quarter to hold an early nine-point lead over the Vikings.
 
While St. Lawrence chipped away at the gap to bring the game within one point halfway through the second quarter, but Durham pushed back to lead 39-30 at halftime.
 
At the break, Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) already had 17 points in the game with three rebounds and three steals in 14:34 of court time. Hannah Stratton – who averages just over eight points a game for St. Lawrence this season had seven by the break.
 
The Vikings pieced together a comeback in the third quarter, including a trio of foul shots with no time left in the quarter to bring the game within one as the scoreboard read 52-51.
 
A three-point shot made from Kassie Dewolfe 38 seconds into the fourth quarter gave the Vikings their first lead of the game and St. Lawrence went on an 8-0 run to start the final quarter. Despite this, the fourth quarter went on to be one of the most exciting quarters of the regular season thus far as both sides went back and forth for most of the quarter.
 
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) hit a late basket with 29.1 seconds left on the clock to give Durham a 77-75 lead forcing the Vikings to make use of their final timeout. The gameplan did not convert to any more points and the Lords held on for a 78-75 win.
 
Dender finished as the team leader in points with 22, while Glendinning was also strong on both sides of the court with eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Victoria Brody (Scarborough, Ont.) had an impressive game with 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four blocks and a steal.
 
St. Lawrence had two players top 20 points in the game as Stratton led the team with 22 and Shian Noble was not far behind with 21.
 
The Lords are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 29 as they host the Seneca Sting in the fourth game of their five game homestand.
