KINGSTON, Ont. - The Durham College men's rugby team earned their first win in their return season to the OCAA, defeating the St. Lawrence Vikings 29-23 in Kingston on Saturday afternoon.
The Lords offence was quick out of the gate as Durham jumped ahead of the Vikings 10-0 in the early going. First half tries from
James Stockwood (Bowmanville, Ont.) and
Ty Jacob (Oshawa, Ont.), combined with two conversions and a penalty kick from
Jordan McGranachan (Ajax, Ont.) had the Lords ahead 17-10 at the break.
Following halftime, Durham continued to march down the field adding another early try from
Eddie Oliveira (Recife, Brazil) to take a 22-17 lead. However, the Vikings found a way to take a one-point lead into the closing minutes.
Delivering excitement once again for those in attendance, Durham forced their way in for a late game-winning try, from
Robert Eliadis (Uxbridge, Ont.), to secure their first win of the season.
The Lords will look to ride the high into their next road matchup with the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday, Sept. 26 in Belleville. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.Â
