Lords concede late goal in loss to Seneca

OSHAWA, Ont. - A late goal from Seneca sealed a 1-0 win over the Durham College women's soccer team on Thursday night.

Seneca had the better opening 10 minutes, forcing Jenna King (Ajax, Ont.) to make a great save early on a ball that was goal-bound, but she stopped it on the goal line.

Vanessa Juras (Ajax, Ont) came close for the Lords in the 36th minute, but her volley went just wide of the right corner.

Seneca out shot the Lords 6-2 heading into the break as the sides were level.

Durham came to life early in the second half when Cory Lapointe (Whitby, Ont.) had three chances in three minutes. Seneca's goalkeeper Angelica Cardarelli made two nice saves and Lapointe's third effort went just wide of the net.

Seneca took a late lead in the 82nd minute when Sona Makulova was through on goal and placed her shot in the bottom right corner.

The Lords applied late pressure, but it wasn't enough to get an equalizer as they fell 1-0.

King impressed in goal with 12 saves on the night, while the Sting out shot Durham 21-12.
