SUDBURY, Ont. – An explosive second half made the difference in the Durham College men's soccer team walking over the Cambrian Golden Shield on Sunday afternoon.
After opening the scoring in the 18th minute, the Lords caught themselves sleeping as Cambrian tied it 1-1 in the 19th.
Before halftime Durham College took a 2-1 lead.
Early in the in the second half the Lords scored in the 50th minute to extend their lead to two before three more in the 75th, 80th and 83rd minutes to go ahead 6-1.
Bruce Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) and
Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.) each scored twice to lead Durham's offence, while
Antonio Maragozidis (Whitby, Ont.) and
Austin MacDonell (Greenwood, Ont.) rounded out the scoring.
Mark Kamstra (Newcastle, Ont.) earned the win in goal for the Lords, his fifth of the season.
Durham has now moved into second in the OCAA east region, passing Cambrian who was one point ahead of them going into the match. Algonquin (5-0) continue to lead the region. For the Lords to catch them they will need some help, plus a victory over them in their season finale at Vaso's Field on Oct. 14.
The men's soccer team's next game is Thursday in Toronto when they take on the Centennial Colts.
