Miller helps hands Lords heartbreaking loss

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – Five points – that's all Khalil Miller had heading into the fourth quarter on Wednesday – but his remaining three baskets were huge as he hit a game-tying three with 11.4 to go in regulation and five of nine Seneca Sting points in overtime to keep the Durham College men's basketball team from upsetting the No. 9 ranked Sting.

Seneca edged the Lords 81-76 and outscored Durham 9-4 in overtime to earn the victory and improve to 10-0.

The Lords went ahead 70-69 off a Tyler Henry (Pickering, Ont.) and looked poised to hold on with a 72-69 lead, but Miller dropped only his third basket of the night and then helped his team make two stops to send the game to overtime.

Overall Durham was happy with their defence of Miller in the game as he was averaging 20.1 points per game heading into the contest, but finished with only 13 in 34:42 of court time. That said, he had the only double-double for the Sting by picking up 17 boards.

Leading the Lords offence was Dondre Huggins (Scarborough, Ont.) with 29 points. Trea Lawson (Whitby, Ont.) picked up a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) scored 20 points in the loss.

This was the Lords fourth straight loss to the Sting, with their last victory coming October 27, 2015.

Heading into the holiday break the Lords sit tied for third in the east region at 7-3, trailing the first-place Seneca Sting (10-0) and George Brown Huskies (9-1). Before conference play picks up again in 2018 they will head to the Genesee Community College Christmas Classic next weekend for a pair of games.

Their next OCAA action is Friday, Jan. 12, a rematch against the Seneca Sting. Their next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 24 against the Loyalist Lancers.
