OSHAWA, Ont. – For the fifth straight meeting, the Durham College women's volleyball team come out on top over the Seneca Sting with a 3-1 victory (25-13, 25-19, 24-26, 25-14).
Durham began the first set strong with a 10-3 run to begin the game and finished just as strong – nearly doubling their rivals from Seneca 25-13.
The second set victory put Durham ahead 2-0, allowing an opportunity for back-to-back three-set victories for the Lords.
The third frame was the toughest battle of the evening after Seneca went ahead 5-1 early. The Lords stayed composed and refused to let things get out of hand by responding with six unanswered points before the remainder of the set went back and forth. Seneca avoided the sweep after squeezing out a 26-24 win.
Durham bounced back in the fourth set with a 25-14 win to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Kiana Miller led the Sting with six kills, while Crystalyn O'Donnell and Taylor Butcher each finished with two blocks.
Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) led the way for the Lords with 12 kills, two service aces and a block. Not far behind were
Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) and
Cassidy Nicholson-Clarke (Ajax, Ont.) with six kills each.
The Lords will look to add to their winning streak as they head to the nation's capital on the weekend to face the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday, Nov. 25 and the La Cité Coyotes on Sunday, Nov. 26.
