BARRIE, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team's struggles continued on Tuesday night as they dropped a 61-56 decision to the Georgian Grizzlies in Barrie.
With the postseason approaching, the Lords will have to turn things around in a hurry if they want to qualify for the OCAA championship after dropping four straight decisions.
Tuesday's game was a see-saw match with the teams exchanging leads throughout the entire contest. Georgian got off to a great start leading 17-13 after ten minutes but Durham bounced back outscoring the Grizzlies 14-6 in the second quarter to take a 27-23 halftime lead.
Georgian would return the favour in the third quarter to lead 43-36 heading into the final ten minutes. Durham would cut the deficit to 53-52 with three minutes to go but were not able to complete the comeback as Georgian won by five.
The Lords (8-7) sit in fourth place in the OCAA east region, two points up on the Centennial Colts (7-8) and two points behind the Algonquin Thunder (9-6). The third and fourth place teams at the end of the regular season will end up hosting an OCAA crossover game with a berth at the championship at stake.
Durham's next action will be a make-up game against the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the CRWC. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
