Sting Suffer First Loss of Season

The Seneca Sting lost their first game of the season, falling to the Algonquin Thunder 4-2.

The Thunder struck first in the 13' on a goal by Justin Gibson.

The Sting responded just before halftime in the 43' when Alhasan Robah scored his team-leading third goal of the season.

The second half saw the Thunder pick up their play. The Thunder were a step quicker than the Sting and controlled the ball for longer periods, netting more scoring opportunities. The quick start in the second half yielded an early lead when Shamir Lubenga broke in past the Sting defenders and fired a shot to the top right corner of Sting goalkeeper Tayjon Campbell in the 47'.

Much like they have done this season, the Sting evened a match up in the second half when Josh Persaud scored in the 72'.

The Thunder added two more goals, both by Hansly Malonga (79', 90') to go ahead for good.

The Thunder outshot the home side 10-8 while carrying a 17-15 advantage in shots attempted. Both teams were awarded eight corner kicks apiece.
