Playoff window closing for Lords

OSHAWA, Ont. – With the regular season winding down the Durham College men's basketball team can use every point they get – unfortunately for the Lords they fell 87-79 on Saturday night to the Canadore Panthers at the CRWC.

Earlier in the day the Loyalist Lancers, who sat two points ahead of Durham heading into the game, fell 81-65 to the Centennial Colts. Unfortunately the Lords were unable to take advantage and catch the Lancers, who they will play in their final game of the 2015-16 campaign.

Leading Durham's offence in the loss was Darian Rowe (Maple, Ont.) with 30 points and eight rebounds. Of those 30 points, Rowe contributed each of the Lords' 10 points in the first quarter. Rowe's 30 point night was also a career-high, which was previously set Oct. 27 when he scored 27 points against the Seneca Sting.

Similar to last Friday the Lords had a slow start, trailing 25-10 after the opening quarter and 48-29 at halftime. Durham outscored the Panthers 27-22 and 23-17 in the remaining quarters, but were unable to dig themselves out of the first half hole.

Aaron Hayles (Pickering, Ont.) and Rashaun Bennett (Scarborough, Ont.) chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively for Durham, while Jude Baptiste (Oshawa, Ont.) scored five points in his first regular season home game for the Lords.

Tarez Hepburn had a game-high 27 points and 20 rebounds for Canadore, which was also the lone double-double of the game. Isse Ibrahim, Santo Dak and Jake Rae each scored 14, 13 and 13 points respectively to round out double-digit scoring for the Panthers.

After the Lords game concluded the scoreboard watching continued with the Georgian Grizzlies, also two points ahead in the standings, in Ottawa against the Algonquin Thunder. Georgian was able to drop the third place Thunder 89–77 to move into a tie for fifth in the east division and put Durham four points out of a playoff spot.

Durham will travel to Ottawa next weekend to face the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday followed by the La Cité Coyotes on Sunday.
