The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team opened up their 2017-18 OCAA regular season at home on Friday night when they hosted the Algonquin Thunder at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The Grizzlies played an up-tempo, exciting brand of basketball which brought the loud crowd to its feet.
It was a tight game but Georgian was able to come away with a 100-93 win to start the season.
Returning veteran Connor Laronde (Barrie) led the Grizzlies with 24 points and was excellent shooting 66.7% from the field in the game.
Anthony Meggo (Whitby) was also strong scoring 22 points while leading the team in minutes. Returning to the Grizzlies was guard Michael Chao (Newmarket) who showed he still has his shooting touch, scoring 16 points.
The Grizzlies were without 2016-17 OCAA second team all-star Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) who suffered an injury in the pre-season.
