OSHAWA, Ont. – After keeping pace with the St. Lawrence Vikings through a quarter – the Durham College women's basketball team learned why the Vikings are undefeated as they pulled away from the Lords en route to their 80-50 victory.
 
Both teams had their offense sputtering through the first quarter as a tight defensive effort had both teams shoot just less than 24 per cent. Durham would take full advantage of the eight SLC turnovers and five team fouls to tie the game at 13 through the first quarter.
 
St. Lawrence took the slight edge in the second to lead 34-28 at half.
 
The third quarter made the major difference as the Vikings outscored Durham 23-3.
 
Unable to comeback from that deficit, Durham was outscored 23-18 in the fourth.
 
Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) led Durham with 19 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double in 14 games this season.
 
St. Lawrence had four players in double digits as Brooke Kelly, Sammy Gourdier, Tiffany McNeil and Shian Noble scored 19, 17, 16 and 14 points respectively.
 
Durham now sits in fourth in the OCAA east region, with the third and fourth place teams hosting a championship qualifying game. They're two points up on the fifth-place Centennial Colts heading into their final three games of the regular season.
 
The Lords travel to Barrie on Tuesday to face the Georgian Grizzlies before hosting the Loyalist Lancers and St. Lawrence Vikings. Centennial just has games left against the Lancers and third-place Algonquin Thunder.
