Vikings break second place tie with win over Lords

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team has dropped to third in the OCAA east division after suffering an 81-59 loss to the St. Lawrence Vikings on Friday night.
 
Durham entered the game in a three-way tie with St. Lawrence and Seneca, but struggled against the same Vikings team they beat 62-54 in December.
 
The Lords were down 27-4 after the opening quarter and 56-18 at halftime. Although Durham won the second half they were unable to complete the comeback after going down early in the game.
 
Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) put up 19 second half points to finish the night with 26, while picking up eight rebounds. Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) added eight points.
 
Abby Heron led St. Lawrence offensively with 15 points and six rebounds. Jackie Rodgerson and Haley Gourdier each picked up 12 points, while Sentilla Bubb's 11 rounded out the Vikings' players in double-digit scoring.
 
Durham will now face the Loyalist Lancers on Tuesday in Belleville. Algonquin has locked up first place in the east division, while St. Lawrence is two points ahead of the Lords for second place. With 14 points, Durham is now in a three-way tie for third with Seneca and Loyalist.
 
Tip-off for Tuesday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
