GRIZZLIES FALL IN BATTLE OF THE BEARS TO BRUINS
Ryan Connolly added to his league scoring lead, finishing the regular season with 96 points. Grizzlies have earned a bye to the semis.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's rugby team played their final regular season game against the Sheridan Bruins this past Saturday in Oakville, ON.
The game was the second annual Battle of the Bears with both teams competing for the Brown Bear Trophy in their annual rivalry game.
It was a tightly contested match-up but in the end it was the Bruins who pulled away in a 40-21 victory.
Ryan Connolly had a try and three converts for the Grizzlies. The Barrie native is currently the OCAA scoring leader with 96 points from four tries and 38 converts.
Connolly currently has 29 points more than the next highest scorer in the league with one game remaining in league play.
Georgian's other tries were scored by Mark Rodman (Minesing) and William Corcoran (Dundalk).
The Bruins will now be the holders of the Brown Bear Trophy for the next year after the Grizzlies won the inaugural match-up last season.
The loss snapped Georgian's regular season win streak after 20 consecutive wins. The Grizzlies had not lost a regular season game since Oct. 1, 2015.
Despite the loss, the Grizzlies finished the regular season as the OCAA West Division Champions with a 5-1 record.
The Grizzlies have earned a bye into the OCAA semi-finals which Georgian will host on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at J.C. Massie Field on the Georgian College Barrie campus.
Georgian will play one of either the Seneca Sting, Algonquin Thunder or St. Lawrence Vikings depending on the results of the final OCAA regular season game and first round playoff match-ups turn out.
Tickets for the game will be available at the doors for $5.
